Want Fair and Accurate Elections in Tennessee? Call Your Senator Today.
December 15, 2009 – 1:08 pm | No Comment
Who Did Your Voting Machines Vote For
In January, the debate over fair and accurate elections in Tennessee will continue in the General Assembly.

“But wait,” you ask, “didn’t we win the battle to replace the 100% unverifiable touch-screen electronic voting machines with paper ballots that can be monitored, audited, and recounted back in 2008?”The answer to that question “yes.” BUT….A bill that would delay implementation of the Tennessee Voter Confidence Act (TVCA) until 2012 AND gut the most meaningful provisions (recount and audit) is coming back for a vote in the State Senate during the first two weeks of session (sometime in late January 2010).

Right now, Senators are being bombarded by phone calls from those who want the delay. Even worse, they are beginning to believe the inaccurate information they are being told – that the paperless electronic machines we use now are “just fine for now” and that in these touch economic times “it is just too expensive for the counties to hold paper ballot elections.”

But we know the truth – the machines are anything but fine and it is actually much less expensive to conduct a paper ballot election.

Please email (make sure to put your zip code in the subject line!) & call your State Senator THIS WEEK to demand that the current law be followed and the TVCA implemented by the November 2010 election. Then forward this message to five friends (it doesn’t matter if they are Republicans, Democrats, or Independents – We ALL deserve fair and accurate elections!) to maximize citizen action in this battle!

When you call, tell them that Nothing – NOTHING – should stand in the way of fair and accurate elections. Tennesseans deserve nothing less. And ask them to please vote against any bill that would delay until 2012 the implementation of the Tennessee Voter Confidence Act. The 100% unverifiable paperless electronic touch-screen voting machines we use now should be replaced with paper ballots, which would be give us elections that could be monitored, recounted, and audited. In addition, the new paper ballot system is cheaper, faster, and more secure than what we are using now. In these uncertain economic times, all Tennesseans are focused on fiscal responsibility. But if our concern is saving money, the best thing we can do is implement the Tennessee Voter Confidence Act.
Thank you and happy calling!

Conservatives Against Capitalism?

While Conservatives rail against their “big socialist government” boogeyman, an interesting new pattern seems to be developing that indicates that Republicans may be willing to thumb their nose at their corporate funders (and capitalism in …
